Emergency medical services (EMS) are emergency services that provide urgent pre-hospital treatment and stabilization for serious illness and injuries and transport to definitive care. Emergency medical technicians (EMT) and nurses are at risk of exposure to infectious diseases such as hepatitis and tuberculosis when working in EMS. They may even be in dangerous situations, such as accidents, crime scenes, or any environment where they may be accidentally exposed to drugs.
